After the Kickstarter for Shadow, Sword & Spell 2E failed to fund in November 2016 I decided to push forward with the new edition anyway. The work was done, and it was silly to not release the game for Rogue Games' 10 Year Anniversary.
Since then I have been working on the manuscript and I am about two weeks of having the manuscript done and off to Tom for editing. The cover art is done, maps are being worked on, and some art is being ordered.
Once the manuscript is ready, and in its' final form it goes into layout.
When does it hit the shelves?
Once GenCon50 is done, it will be in your local stores.
I will talk more about the game later, but I will say this about it: I think this is one of the most improved games I have ever worked on. It has been clarified, it is cleaned up, and more importantly, the writing style is very different. Looking at this manuscript I am pleased that Shadow, Sword & Spell is the game I have always wanted it to be.
So what comes after the Shadow, Sword & Spell 2E Rulebook comes out?
City: With the Rulebook nearing completion I can get this done. This has a lot of work to be done, but I am aiming for this next year.
Tower of the Iron Hand: This is a stand alone adventure that is different in tone from The Stew and Embrace.
Retro: Let me keep the details of this a secret. Is the title a hint? Am I hiding what it truly is? Time will tell.
Dark Magic: This book is going to deal with demons and summoning creatures that no mortal person should dare. From demons to devils, jinn and mythos, this book brings darker magic found in the games' inspirational writers (Howard, Lovecraft and Smith) to the game.
World: A look at how to create your own campaign and setting, as well as a detailed look at The World.
Threats 2: What the name implies.
The above represents about two years of releases. Going forward my plan is to release two Colonial Gothic and Shadow, Sword & Spell releases a year. I want more balance to releases, which is something I have not done in a long time. Also it allows me flexibility for something else I have planned for next year.
So there you have it, two updates about the two important games of Rogue Games. It is going to be a lot of work on my part, but it is going to be fun. I hope you enjoy this upcoming ride.
