Grim & Perilous Studios and Rogue Games Announces Its Next Tabletop RPG - COLONIAL GOTHIC: Grim
Colonial Gothic – the highly regard tabletop role-playing game of mystery, conspiracy and supernatural horror originally written by Rogue Games – will be re-launched in partnership with Grim & Perilous Studios in 2020. Branded COLONIAL GOTHIC: Grim & Perilous RPG,it will bring players into a grim & perilous world of American colonial survival horror, using the Powered By ZWEIHANDER d100 game engine and beautifully-illustrated cover to cover by Dejan Mandic.

In COLONIAL GOTHIC: Grim & Perilous RPG, your character will come from one of the Thirteen Colonies in America. The world is entering a new era, what Thomas Paine called the ‘Age of Reason’, slowly but steadily leaving behind old beliefs rooted in myth and superstition, and beginning to embrace new philosophies defined by logic, mathematics, and science. You’ll play a character who not only knows Magick is real, but also the unspeakable horrors it spawns – and these horrors are everywhere: witches who curse an isolated settlement, a vampire that followed European immigrants to the New World, or angry spirits terrorizing a Cherokee tribe. Whether your character is fighting in the frontier or fending off disease, you – along with others like you who know the truth – ceaselessly wage a hidden war against the forces seeking to plunge the world into chaos and darkness. There are none but you.

Grim & Perilous Studios’ founder Daniel D. Fox said, “I have always been fascinated by the history of America’s birth. From the siege of Boston, to the Sons of Liberty and the Freemasons, there are a rich tapestry of stories to tell of the New World. As we know, the history of the Thirteen Colonies was shrouded in conspiracy, mystery and intrigue. To tell these stories through the lens of grim & perilous role-play makes perfect sense for our brand. Rather than attempting to write our own Colonial-inspired game from the ground up, we found an easy partner in Rogue Games’ Colonial Gothic”.
“After several email exchanges with Rogue Games’ founder Richard Iorio, we realized that marrying ZWEIHANDER Grim & Perilous RPG with Colonial Gothic was a no-brainer. We are now in the planning process to recast all of the rich content from the original line through the lens of grim & perilous tabletop role-play. Our goal is to create an immense 600+ page book using refreshed designs, completely new illustrations and all-new content bolted onto the rules chassis of the Powered By ZWEIHANDER d100 game engine. Much like, this all-in-one rulebook will ooze with flavor, fully-illustrated in gritty black and white detail from cover-to-cover. It will include a player’s handbook, gamemaster’s guide and fully loaded bestiary. COLONIAL GOTHIC: Grim & Perilous RPG will tell of an inspired history of the Colonists, married to mythological stories of the Americas and the supernatural horrors that followed the English to the New World. Grim & Perilous Studios has a deep respect of the complicated histories presented in the work, and we cannot wait to take on this exciting project.”

For 12 years, Colonial Gothic has explored Colonial America with heavily researched books, intricate plots, and a secret history that only a few know.
“To say Colonial Gothic is my passion would be an understatement. The real opportunities history offers not only strengthens the game but brings to it a gravitas fans have come to love,” says Richard Iorio, president of Rogue Games.

For Colonial Gothic, there is a secret history, and this history deals with events taking place in the shadows. These events play a role in the American colonies and in the American Revolution. Current fans of the game know the events are moving behind the scenes, and lurking in the shadows are agents with their own agenda. A war is coming. The Siege of Boston is lifted, and General Washington is leading the Continental Army to New York. The enemies are many, but as to who they are, you do not know.
“For fans of Colonial Gothic, it is because of your passion this partnership has become a reality. It was your questions, your ideas, and our joint discovery of how history serves as the impetus of adventure," said Richard. “It is now our time to show others truly how great this game is. I cannot wait to get writing and bring you a new version of the game you love. If you thought you knew everything about the world of Colonial Gothic, you are in for a treat.
We will reveal more about our plans for COLONIAL GOTHIC: Grim & Perilous RPG in the coming months, which you can follow on our home page and on social media. Please help us share this announcement online using these hashtags #ColonialGothic #ZweihanderRPG #GrimAndPerilous
